Inaugural Simi Olusola Youth in Politics Fellowship Concludes in Akwa Ibom, Empowering Future Leaders
UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE – The Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria (MWFAAN) has successfully concluded the inaugural Simi Olusola Youth in Politics Fellowship (SOYIPF) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The two-day program aimed at equipping young Nigerians with the necessary tools for ethical and strategic political engagement, embodying the vision of the late Simi Olusola to “Dream, Plan, and Act” as future leaders.
The fellowship provided participants with a comprehensive curriculum designed to enhance their ability to navigate and influence the African political landscape. A diverse group of distinguished facilitators led sessions, including Akparawa Michael Bush of Bush House Nigeria, a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Brand and Marketing, an academic lecturer from the University of Uyo, and various councillors and award-winning consultants
.
Participants gained invaluable knowledge and practical skills in key areas such as strategic leadership, ethical leadership and accountability, leadership traits in influencing decisions, fundraising strategies for community mobilization, grassroots mobilization, political communication, public relations, and media strategies.
“The Simi Olusola Youth in Politics Fellowship has undeniably provided its fellows with a robust foundation of knowledge and practical skills,” stated a representative from MWFAAN. “We are confident that these emerging leaders are now better equipped to drive positive change, leading with integrity and strategic foresight within Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.”
The successful execution of the fellowship was made possible through the crucial support of the US Consulate Nigeria. This support enabled a team from the Legacy Cohort of MWFAAN, who had studied in various institutions across the United States, to converge from different parts of Nigeria and champion this impactful project in honor of their peer, Simi Olusola.
The event saw active participation from the MWFAAN executive powerhouse, with the Publicity Secretary and the South Zonal Coordinator in attendance. Special commendation was given to the Project Director of the Simi Olusola Youth in Politics Fellowship and their team for their dedication to empowering the next generation of leaders.
